Old Karuizawa and New Karuizawa area
The birthplace of Karuizawa's villa culture.
The area is home to many famous tourist spots, including the Old Karuizawa Ginza, Shaw Memorial Chapel, and Manpei Hotel, as well as a large area of villas surrounded by the lush greenery of moss gardens.
This is the area where you can feel the essence of Karuizawa the most.

The area stretches on both sides of Prince Street, which connects Minami Karuizawa and Shin Karuizawa.

Nakakaruizawa/Kaminohara area

It is about 8 minutes by car from Karuizawa Station, or about 4 minutes by Shinano Railway, and is surrounded by Nakakaruizawa Station, a railway station on the Shinano Railway. The area is characterized by its compact location, with infrastructure facilities and various stores, and the ability to complete daily life on foot or by bicycle. This is an area with a relatively large number of locals and permanent residents.
The area north of the station is home to the town hall, general hospital, library, and financial institutions, as well as many restaurants and izakayas. Further north, there is a villa area with a Karuizawa-like atmosphere.
The area south of the station is home to the hugely popular supermarket "Tsuruya," as well as Yukawa Furusato Park and a drugstore. Sengataki/Hoshino area
In the area about 5 minutes north by car from Nakakaruizawa Station, there are many villa areas with a typical Karuizawa atmosphere, such as Sengataki Villa Area, Mitsui no Mori, and Hoshino Onsen, and it is also a popular tourist area with several day-trip hot spring facilities and Harunire Terrace operated by Hoshino Resorts. On the other hand, there are concerns about the cold and freezing temperatures in winter, but the recent warming of the climate has also affected Karuizawa, making the Sengataki area a comfortable place to spend the winter.

Kariyado area
Kariyado is an area that stretches from north to south between Oiwake and Nakakaruizawa on the west side of Karuizawa, sandwiched between National Route 18. It is a convenient location, and if you get on Route 18, you can reach Nakakaruizawa in 5 minutes by car, and if you take the bypass, you can easily access Shiozawa and Minamikaruizawa. It is also about 20 minutes by car to Saku City, where you will often go shopping if you settle in Karuizawa. The nearest station is a 5-minute drive away, and you can go to both Nakakaruizawa Station and Shinano-Oiwake Station.

When you get off at Usui Karuizawa IC and head towards Karuizawa, you will come across an open plain. This is the Minami Karuizawa area.
